Plateau de la Monse

VAL-DE-CHARMEY

The hike starts from Charmey, with the Dents Vertes as a backdrop and the Vanil de la Monse in view. Maple trees and a dry stone wall restored in 2000 accompany the walker on the Monse plateau. Dry stone walls are a typical feature of local farming culture. The stones, assembled without mortar, are taken from the site. Further on, the alpine chalet and chapel of La Monse welcome hikers from their small hill. The shingled roof of the alpine hut is remarkable and, dating from the 16th century, it is one of the oldest alpine huts in the canton of Fribourg.

From May to October
