Charmey | Forge de la Tzintre

VAL-DE-CHARMEY

A former forge dating back to 1870, this site still contains all the tools and machines of the era in working order. Anvils and hammers stand alongside machines from the 1920s and 1930s, powered by electric motors and belts. Fire, a crucial element for blacksmiths, enabled metal to be worked at temperatures ranging from 800 to 1,400 degrees. Visitors can see how horseshoes and drop hammers are used. The tour continues with a visit to the bicycle and moped repair shop, which was in use from 1957 to 1963. After the visit to the forge, the Grande-Exposition moves on to the world of forging trades, in particular that of the blacksmith.

The forge has been open to groups since 2016. The Tzintre cheese cellars, located not far from the forge, can also be visited.
